Immersive Technology

Intent

At Hunningley Primary Academy, our immersive technology enriches an ambitious, inclusive and equitable curriculum, opening up a world of experiences for every child. Through our immersive classroom, immersive floor, iSandbox, immersive walls and iTable, we aim to bring learning to life, deepen understanding and build children’s cultural capital through encounters with places, environments and ideas beyond their everyday experiences.

We want children to become curious, confident learners who ask thoughtful questions, explore possibilities and make connections between what they already know and new learning. Our ambition is that every pupil, including disadvantaged children and those with special educational needs and disabilities, benefits from meaningful experiences that broaden horizons, develop communication and collaboration, and help knowledge become memorable.

Implementation

Immersive technology supports carefully planned learning across the curriculum. Teachers select experiences with a clear purpose, connecting them to the knowledge, vocabulary and skills children are developing. Preparation introduces key ideas and questions, while discussion and follow-up activities help pupils reflect, explain their understanding and apply their learning.

Our immersive classroom creates opportunities to explore different settings and perspectives. The immersive floor and walls support active participation and shared discovery, while the iSandbox and iTable offer opportunities for practical exploration, problem-solving and collaborative learning. Together, these resources provide different ways for children to engage with concepts and communicate their ideas.

Experiences are adapted to children’s starting points, communication needs, physical access and sensory preferences. Adult support, appropriate challenge and flexible approaches enable pupils to participate meaningfully. Particular attention is given to removing barriers for disadvantaged pupils and pupils with SEND, ensuring that access leads to learning, confidence and a sense of belonging.

Impact

Our intended impact is that children develop a deeper understanding of the curriculum and can recall, explain and apply what they have learned. Immersive experiences should strengthen vocabulary, stimulate purposeful discussion and help pupils make connections across subjects. We also want children to show greater curiosity, independence and confidence when exploring unfamiliar ideas and working with others.

We evaluate the difference this provision makes through pupil voice, observations, discussion and children’s subsequent work. We consider what pupils can remember, articulate and use beyond the immersive experience, alongside their participation and engagement.

Leaders pay particular attention to the experiences and outcomes of disadvantaged pupils and pupils with SEND, reviewing whether adaptations enable them to benefit fully. This informs improvements to planning and provision, so that our investment in immersive technology contributes to lasting learning, wider opportunities and the best in everyone.
