Education with Character

Intent

At Hunningley Primary Academy, we believe education is about far more than academic success. Through our Education with Character curriculum, we are committed to developing confident, compassionate and responsible young people who are ready to make a positive contribution to society. We want every child to experience opportunities that broaden their horizons, strengthen their character and enrich their understanding of the world around them. By deliberately developing cultural capital, community cohesion, leadership, service and personal growth, we ensure that every pupil leaves Hunningley with the knowledge, skills and experiences needed to thrive in modern Britain and beyond. We are passionate about providing an equitable Education with Character offer that removes barriers to participation and ensures every child can benefit from the experiences, opportunities and encounters that build cultural capital, broaden horizons and prepare them for future success.

Implementation

Education with Character is woven through every aspect of life at Hunningley. Our carefully planned character curriculum provides pupils with a wide range of experiences including enrichment clubs, educational visits, careers encounters, swimming, outdoor learning, music, performances, leadership opportunities, charity work and community projects. Through initiatives such as Friday 45, cultural celebrations, visits to places of worship, intergenerational projects and pupil leadership roles, children develop confidence, resilience, empathy and respect for others. We actively connect these experiences to classroom learning, ensuring that children understand the wider world, appreciate diversity and develop a sense of responsibility towards their community. Throughout their journey from Nursery to Year 6, pupils gradually build a portfolio of memorable experiences that help shape their interests, ambitions and aspirations.

Impact

The impact of Education with Character can be seen in the confident, articulate and caring young people who leave our school. Our children develop the courage to try new experiences, the confidence to share their ideas and the empathy to understand the perspectives of others. They become active contributors to school life and the wider community, demonstrating leadership, kindness and a genuine desire to make a difference. Through a rich programme of enrichment and cultural experiences, pupils gain knowledge and understanding that extends beyond the classroom, enabling them to become informed, respectful and ambitious citizens. Most importantly, they leave Hunningley with lasting memories, widened aspirations and the belief that they can positively shape their own future and the world around them
