Remote Learning FAQs for Parents

  • What should my child expect from immediate remote education in the first day or two of pupils being sent home?

    All lessons at Hunningley Primary School are live streamed, with the exception of PE. All children have Office 365 accounts and are invited each day to attend lessons. Those who are isolating at home will be admitted to the lesson by the teacher. Resources for lessons are all available as attachments in the invite.

  • Following the first few days of immediate education, will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum remotely as they would if they were in school?

    All year will continue to follow their long term plans and make adaptations, where needed, to enable children learning from home to access lessons.

    • For art and design technology, we have made adaptations to the practical parts to make sure that children can complete tasks using what they have at home.
    • For science, we have adapted some of the practical work for the same reasons as in art and design technology.
    • For PE, our sports coach has pre-recorded lessons that will be streamed to those children learning from home, at the same time the rest of the class will be taking part in this lesson.
  • How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?

    All year group lessons begin online at 9am beginning with class morning meetings.

    Lessons start at 9.15am, they break for an hour for lunch and then have a further hour in the afternoon (4 hours), followed by a story/class novel at the end of the day.

  • Accessing remote education

  • How will my child access any online remote education you are providing?

    We use Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Teams to support online learning. All children have their own Office 365 account for emails and live streaming of lessons. Children have been shown how to use a Chromebook and how to access Teams and parents have been supported by staff and online videos we have created.

  • How will my child be taught remotely?

    Children in all year groups will be taught remotely using live teaching on Office 365 Teams.

  • If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education?

    We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. We take the following approaches to support those pupils to access remote education:

    • If your child does not have access to appropriate technology, they will be offered a Chromebook and 4G data dongle if needed.
    • You will be given a time to collect these, or arrangements will be made for delivery to the home.
    • You will be asked to sign for delivery and will have the opportunity to ask for support in setting this up.
  • Engagement and feedback

  • What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home
    • Your child is expected to complete the work set.
    • Where your child is invited to a live lesson, they are expected to attend. Where they do not attend, we will make a phone call to you to ensure that this happens.
    • We expect parents to support their child’s learning, including ensuring that they are available and online for any live teaching.
    • You will receive information about what we expect during live teaching.

    Please ensure that your child follows these expectations.

  • How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?
    • There will be daily live teaching sessions which will allow teachers to check on your how well your child is doing.
    • We will offer smaller group sessions to support some pupils.
    • If your child is not online when we expect them to be, we will make a phone call home to check.
    • If your child is not completing and submitting work, your child’s classteacher will call you to discuss this. They will talk to you about how you can help.
  • How will you assess my child’s work and progress?

    Feedback can take many forms and may not always mean extensive written comments for individual children; for example, whole-class feedback or quizzes marked automatically via digital platforms are also valid and effective methods, amongst many others. Our approach to feeding back on pupil work is as follows:

    • We might ask your child to send their work back via email. This might be through their email account or yours. A photograph works well for this, but your child’s teacher will let you know what we need.
    • We will sometimes use online quizzes to check if your child has understood what they have been learning.
    • Your child will have at least two opportunities during the week to speak to their teacher about their work. This might be during a live streamed lesson, or it might be in a small group tutorial time.
  • Additional support for pupils with particular needs

  • How will you work with me to support my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?

    We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with SEND, may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:

    If your child has special educational needs and/ or disabilities, we will speak to you directly about their support. They will continue to be supported by the adults who work with them in school through live teaching or additional recorded information. This work will match what they would access in school as far as is practicable. There might be some circumstances where this is not possible, but we will speak to you directly about this.

  • Remote provision for self-isolating pupils

  • If my child is not in school because they are self-isolating, how will their remote education differ from the approaches described above?

    If your child is not in school because they are self-isolating, we will follow the same approach as above.
