World Book Day

To celebrate World Book Day, we have focused on one of our favourite Julia Donaldson books Tabby McTat. After sharing the book as a class, Class 5 created some fantastic artwork and also helped to persuade someone to give Tabby a new home. We also learnt the song from the book and created our own actions to go along.

Fun with Fractions

This week we have explored the fraction 1/2. We found out that one half (1/2) is the same as one piece out of two equal pieces by: cutting pictures, string and paper, folding fabric, filling containers and even cutting our fruit in to two halves.

Tudor Roses

Over the last couple of weeks, the children have been finding out about the Tudor Rose. They found out who created it, when it was created and also why it was created.  They then constructed their own Tudor Rose and painted them.  Take a look at the finished products.

Love to Read!

This week we have really enjoyed sharing and reading  ‘Dr Xargle’s Book of Earthlets’ together. We found this book very funny and decided to help Dr Xargles by writing a non chronological report about what babies are actually like. We told him that Earthlets are actually called babies and they don’t have tentacles or pheelers!

Happy New Year!

A new year means a new topic for class 5. This term we have a history topic called ‘Beams, Battles and Banquets’ focusing on the Tudors. We have loved getting to know all about Henry VII and why the Tudor period began.

Countdown to Christmas!

On Thursday, Class 5 got in to the festive spirit and decorated our classroom. We are also working very hard to make our Christmas play extra special by practicing the songs everyday. We look forward to seeing you at the show.

Children in Need

We have had a very exciting day today baking. We followed a recipe to make fairy buns and decorated them to look like Pudsey bear. All the money we raise from selling them will go to Children in Need. Well done Class 5!

Number bonds

This week our focus has been number bonds and we have explored different ways to make numbers. One of our challenges was to see how many ways we could make the same rod. We then had to work out the value of each section.
