Times Table Fortune Tellers

The children have been working really hard to learn their maths facts. Times tables, as always are where they struggle. I have been making Times Table Fortune Tellers with some of the children and they have really loved using them to practise their maths facts. Print them off to have a go at home.

Hunningley Primary School Building Works

Dear Parents and Carers,

Hunningley Primary School Hunningley Lane

Barnsley South Yorkshire S703DT Tuesday 28th February 2017

Hunningley Primary School will be undergoing further building works and refurbishment. The work will include 2 new classrooms and new toilet facilities in KS2, the refurbishment of the existing KS2 classrooms and a revamped library area. When the work is complete we will also have new playgrounds at the rear of school, with all staff car parking at the front.

Work at the front of school will begin on Monday 13th March.

The main site compound and work will be on the existing KS2 playground. There will be a path around the site to provide access for parents and children at the start and end of the day. KS2 children will line up in the area outside the KS2 exit door at the rear. Please ask your children to stay away from staff cars whilst waiting for the whistle to be blown. All KS2 classes will leave by the same door. UKS2 will finish at 3.10pm and LKS2 at 3.15pm. We hope this will ease some of the anticipated congestion, but please be patient whilst we get all the children out.

As the KS2 playground is now out of bounds, there will be no vehicle access to the school site for Breakfast Club or for collecting from after school clubs without a disabled pass. The staff car park at the front will be coned off for safety to allow children to cross at these times. Also for safety, contractors’ vehicles will not access the driveway between 8.15-9.15am and 3-3.30pm.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience to you whilst the works are being carried out. However, we are very excited about the work being done and the improvement it will make for our children. We look forward to sharing it all with you in September.

We want you to know that we are here for you should you feel that there are issues during the build. You can contact us in a number of ways:

  1. By ringing the main school number and asking to make an appointment 01226 284867
  2. By calling into the main school office and asking to make an appointment
  3. By emailing the Headteacher on c.dean@hunningley.org
  4. By emailing the Executive Headteacher should you feel concerned that you have not been listened toby the school on n.thorpe@bankend.org

We thank you for your continued support.

Dear parents and carers,

On behalf of the Bank End and Hunningley Primary School Governors, I would like to inform you that both schools will close two days earlier than initially planned at the end of the summer term. The schools will close on Friday 21st July. The decision to close has not been taken lightly and made for the following reasons:

  1. Both Horizon and Barnsley Academy will be closed and therefore all Y6 children are expected to return to their primaries. Last year this was the case and only two children returned meaning that 70 children had unauthorised absences for two days.
  2. To support building and maintenance work being done in both schools.
  3. To give staff additional training

In order to give you advance notice of school closure dates for 2017/2018 on the reverse of this letter there are the dates for the Barnsley School Holidays. Additional school closure days for staff training will be:

Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th September 2017
Friday 22nd December 2017
Monday 4th June 2018
Monday 23rd July 2018

Please put these in your diary or on your calendar.

Many thanks for your continued support,

Nic Thorpe

‘Hunningley Maths Challenge.’

Dear Families

In today’s assembly we will be launching our ‘Hunningley Maths Challenge.’ The Maths Challenge will help your children learn the important facts they need to be able to recall. Spending time on learning number facts is way you can help your child with maths at home, and knowing the facts will help them to tackle more complex calculations and problem solving tasks more easily. Each child will be given a list of number facts that they need to know. Every week you will be receiving a letter with tips, suggested activities and websites to help you at home. In the last week of this half term your child will assessed to see how much they have learnt. They will be given 30 questions based on the number facts below and an award will be given based on the number of correct marks.

  • 20-24 marks = bronze award
  • 25-29 marks = silver award
  • 30 marks = gold award

If your child gets full marks they will be invited to a special Easter egg hunt at the end of term!

We greatly appreciate your support.  Thank you and good luck!

Happy number crunching! Mrs Dean

Parent Pupil and Teacher Meetings

Dear Parents/Carers

We will be holding Parent Pupil and Teacher meetings in the coming weeks. These meetings will focus upon how the progress they are making with their learning and behaviour, and to discuss how you and school can support them in achieving their end of year goals.

It is really important that we have this opportunity to share with you your child’s progress and discuss how we can all support them in moving forward in their learning and behaviour. If you are not able to attend on the date given on the appropriate document attached below, please contact your child’s class teacher to arrange an alternative appointment.

Please complete the attached form and return to your child’s class teacher by Thursday 16th February.

Thank you for your support,
